Grupo de Física Matemática

Grupo de Física Matemática (Group of Mathematical Physics, GFM) is a research centre founded in 1995 and headquartered at Instituto Superior Técnico in Lisbon, Portugal.

GFM is part of the Portuguese system of science and technology, being principally funded by the Portuguese science foundation Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT). It has always obtained the top classification of Excellent in all FCT evaluations in which it received funding.

Our driving goal is to develop rigorous mathematical methods motivated by problems in modern theoretical physics. This is not only about making rigorous what physicists already know, but about creating new tools and ideas inspired by the most recent developments in the mathematical sciences.

At present, the work of our members can be broadly divided into four main areas:

External Advisory Board

Prof. Dr. Boguslaw Zegarlinski (Directeur de recherche 1, CNRS: UMR 5219, Univ. Paul Sabatier, Toulouse, France)
Prof. Dr. Sergio Albeverio (Institute for Applied Mathematics, Univ. Bonn, Germany)

From time to time GFM will open calls for doctoral and postdoctoral fellowships, open to applicants of any nationality, country of residence, and gender. Applicants wil be chosen on a competitive basis, and subject to the resources of the centre provided by the FCT or other funding agencies. Calls will be announced on this website and via the standard portals such as Euraxess. GFM can also support direct applications to fellowship programs such as in the “CEEC” (Concurso de Estímulo ao Emprego Científico) calls of the FCT. For more information, including a description of the host conditions and a statement of support, please contact the director of the centre directly.
